The Yacht Club at Thousand Island Park has been a tradition for generations.  At least one incarnation was known as the St. Lawrence Sailing Club, and other records indicate that the first Thousand Island Park Yacht Club was established as early as 1910.  At one point, Thousand Island Park was known nationally to hold one of the largest fleets of Lightning Class boats in the country.

Regardless of its beginnings, the Club has always had a mission to promote and encourage interest in sailing by providing opportunities for both youth and adult instruction in sailing, boating safety, and handling as well as hosting organized sailboat racing events.

We have a very active and successful Youth Sailing Program and many new members take advantage of our Learn to Sail Programs for children, teenagers, and adults.  We also have a Race Team that is affiliated with a Central New York InterClub Circuit.

Prospective members do not have to have a sailboat, or even be thinking about buying one.  The TIPYC has a small fleet of sailboats including Optimists, Lasers (4.7 and Radials), 420s, a Lightning, and an Javelin O'day.  These boats are made available to students, both children and adults, in the Sailing School.

We sponsor at least three regattas each summer including a Youth Regatta for Optimists, Lasers, and 420s as part of the Central New York InterClub.

Our “Clubhouse,” the Thousand Island Park Pavilion, is considered an icon along the St. Lawrence River.

With social events throughout the season, we look to promote and encourage fellowship, friendship and camaraderie within the greater River community.

The Thousand Island Park Yacht Club is a registered 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit organization.  As such, all memberships and contributions are deductible to the fullest extent of the the law.
